I Am Chipmunk is the debut studio album by British grime and R&B musician Chipmunk . It was first released on iTunes on October 9, 2009 . The album has a total length of 47 minutes and was released on the Columbia Records label. The CD was released three days later on October 12, 2009. The platinum edition of the album was released on April 26, 2010 as a download and the CD on May 3, 2010.

Style of the album

The style of the entire album has been described differently. Allmusic, for example, described it as rap and pop / rock , Alex Fletcher of Digital Spy described it as "celebratory pop and strutting, commercial hip-hop" and Caroline Sullivan of The Guardian described the songs from the album as "skittering, rapid-fire pop songs, leaving little room for anything hardcore. "

Charts

The album hit the Irish charts, the UK charts and the UK R&B charts. While you could only come to number 49 in Ireland, number two was the highest chart position in Great Britain, while you could even advance to number one in the UK R&B charts. The album stayed in the official top 75 for a total of 23 weeks.

criticism

The album received mostly positive reviews. Jon O'Brien from Allmusic , for example, said about the album: “[…] But while it may not be the most authentic and uncompromising example of the grime genre, it's an impressively confident debut album that promises - at the very least - a fruitful pop career ahead ”and gave the album 3.5 stars out of five.
