Sky Sport News is a 24-hour sports news channel in Germany .

history

On February 24, 2011, the pay TV broadcaster Sky announced that an offshoot called Sky Sport News HD would go on air from December 1, 2011. After the start, the station was initially free to receive for a month and a half as part of a major advertising campaign. Kate Abdo , who previously worked for CNN International in London , was hired as head anchor . The Briton contributed significantly to the development of the station until she left in November 2013.

On July 13, 2016 it was announced that Sky was changing its business policy and that the station would be free to receive from December 1, 2016 . With the conversion into a free TV channel , the clarification of copyright issues of the future program offer was connected. The usual broadcast of excerpts from Bundesliga games no longer seemed possible, as these rights had already been granted to other rights holders from the free TV broadcasting group. For the period from the 2017/18 season onwards , Sky has now also acquired the rights for a time-shifted highlight reporting on free TV.

On August 4, 2020, Sky announced that from August 5, 2020, Sky Sport News would dispense with the "HD" suffix in its name and would appear in a new design.

Sending scheme

A team of moderators, mostly consisting of a woman and a man, present sports news from all over the world in 15-minute blocks, live daily from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. At 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., the line-up changes every five hours. The focus of the program is on football , handball , motor sports and tennis . At night, the last hour of broadcast is shown in a loop. The broadcast was live between 7:00 a.m. and 1:00 a.m. until May 31, 2017.

After switching to free TV, the program should also include other formats in addition to the sports news. From June 20, 2017, reruns of the comedy show Ein Liga für sich - Buschi's six-chain, produced for Sky 1 , were broadcast. In addition, Jörg Wontorra presented a Sunday football talk from August 13, 2017 , which was discontinued after only two seasons due to insufficient audience figures. For the 2019/20 season he got a new format with Wontorra on Tour , which was also broadcast on free-to-air television on SSNHD.
