Dennis Baier

Dennis Baier (born December 3, 1975 in Rüsselsheim am Main ) is a German sports journalist , commentator and moderator as well as a former handball player .

Life

Baier attended the Max-Planck-Gymnasium Rüsselsheim , which he left in 1995 with the Abitur. Then he did his community service. From 1997 to 1999 he did an apprenticeship in wholesale and foreign trade at Mitsubishi . This was followed by studies of sports science, sociology and pedagogy at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz until 2005 , with a Magister Artium as a sports scientist. Since 2006 he has been working as a sports teacher and educational assistant at the all-day high school Theresianum in Mainz.

Athletic career

From 1981 to 1991 he was a track and field athlete for TV Trebur. In 1990 he became the Hessian team runner-up in cross-country skiing. In 1991 he moved to the handball department of TV Trebur, where he stayed until 1997. From 1997 to 2012 he played for the clubs TV Nieder-Olm , SG Waldfischbach , TV Reinheim, TV Groß-Umstadt and TV Petterweil . In total, he played in the 3rd division for eight years .

Professional background

After internships in the sports department of ZDF and Hessischer Rundfunk , Baier was the head of live broadcasts from 2007 to 2009 for the handball, basketball and volleyball national league of the Sportdigital television program . His tasks also included interviews with players and responsible persons, as well as the preparation of articles about German handball. From 2009 to 2014 he was a sports journalist at Sport1 . He acted as a commentator, moderator and field interviewer on broadcasts of handball games. Baier also prepared game summaries and created news and magazine articles.

In 2014 he moved to Sky Germany . Until 2017 he was the editor in charge of the handball editorial team at Sky. Since February 2017 he has been in Sky's handball department and as a commentator and moderator. He also moderates on Skysportnews HD.
