Linda Nagata (* 7. November 1960 in San Diego , California ) is an on Hawaii living American science fiction - and fantasy - writer . Her short story Goddesses was the first online publication to win a Nebula Award . She frequently writes in the nanopunk genre, which is about nanotechnology and the integration of advanced computer technology with the human brain .

life and career

Nagata family moved to Oahu ( Hawaii ), when she was ten years old. After completing her bachelor's degree in zoology at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa , she moved to the island of Maui , where she lives with her family.

Nagata began writing after graduating, and published her first short story in 1987. She publishes her work under her independent imprint, Mythic Island Press, LLC. as e-books and paperbacks.

Nanopunk

Her best-known works include her "Nanotech Succession" series, which is seen as exemplary for the nanopunk genre. Nagata's science fiction work has been compared to the work of authors such as Kathleen Ann Goonan and Neal Stephenson .
