Linde (first name)
Linde is a female given name that has a certain distribution, especially in the Dutch-speaking area .
Origin and meaning
Linden ( ahd. Linta ) is initially a name for the plant genus of linden trees , also known as the "tree of love". The linden tree gets its name because of its “soft” bast , from which belts are woven , for example . Shields were made from the light wood of the tree , so that linta could also take on the meaning of “shield”. This weapon should be the name motif here.
Like the female first name Linda , Linde is also a short form of names with the Germanic element lind , such as Lindgard, Gerlinde or Sieglinde . As the second member of the name, lind only appears in women's names and then goes back to ahd. Lind (i) , gentle, soft, mild (cf. Latin lentus and English lithe for German “flexible” or “supple” ). The word “ relief ” also has this origin.
