history

Lindenberg emerged at the end of the 17th century as a settlement of Bohemian exiles on the corridors of the Oppach manor. The first mention of the allotment gardeners row, which then consisted of six houses, was made in 1693. Since the landlord ordered a linden tree to be planted in front of each new house, the settlement was given the name Lindenberg. The old settlement core (old line), laid out on a fold in the floor above the Röhrgrund, is still clearly visible today.

As a result of the industrial boom in Oppach, Lindenberg grew rapidly from the middle of the 19th century. In 1936 the outdoor swimming pool and the Lindenberg sports complex were laid out, and the inauguration took place as part of the 600th anniversary of the Oppach community. During the GDR era, bathrobes and terry towels were produced in a branch of the VEB Oberlausitzer Textilbetriebe Neugersdorf in Lindenberg. In 1998 the musician Andreas Pietschmann opened the Sachsenlandhalle, also known as the Oberlausitzer Musikantenscheune, in a converted barn in Oberdorf .

The round linden section on the Hähnel is protected as a natural monument.
