Map of the quarter

Lindenplatz is a district of the city of Winterthur . Together with the quarters Weinberg , Oberfeld , Niederfeld , Neuburg , Hardau , Härti and Taggenberg it forms the district 6 ( Wülflingen ). The quarter is named after a central square in the city district, but includes much more than just the immediate vicinity of this square.

The name of the square comes from a 1404 first mentioned Gerichtslinde , probably of lower jurisdiction, the rule of Wülflingen belonged.

geography

The Lindenplatz district encompasses the historic core of Wülflingen, in the center of which is Lindenplatz and next to it the Reformed Church . The district is crossed by the Eulach and the Töss also borders the district in the south . The quarter is relatively flat and, apart from a cultivated land area, completely built over. Overall, the quarter has a larger north-south expansion, with the southern part in particular not counting as part of the historic town center.

The border to the Weinberg district in the north is Salomon-Hirzel-Strasse, which bypasses the center of Wülflingen and is at the same time a motorway feeder. In the west, the A1 motorway is the border to the districts of Härti and Niederfeld, with the district extending along this in the south to the Töss, which forms the border with the Neuburg district on a 125 meter narrow strip. Towards the south-east, to which the quarter is adjacent to Oberfeld, the border runs through various streets - listed from north to south: Schlossweg, Oberfeldstrasse, Hohfurristrasse, Dellerrain, Lettenstrasse and Wurmbühlstrasse.

education

The Ausserdorf primary school, which was built in the classicist style in 1897 and expanded in 1906, is located in the area of the quarter in the southern part of the quarter with the Wieshof and Rappstrasse kindergartens. For the northern part of the district, the Langwiesen primary school is on the other side of the motorway in the Härti district.

The Hohfurri secondary school is located slightly outside of the district in Oberfeld, but it is easy to reach from anywhere in the district.

history

The Lindenplatz district includes, among other things, the historic core of the urban district and the formerly independent village of Wülflingen. Despite being incorporated into Winterthur in 1921, Wülflingen was able to retain its village character for a long time, which, apart from individual developments, did not do much until the middle of the 20th century, in particular the southern part of the quarter was only slowly built over at the beginning of the second half of the century. The A1 motorway, which now forms the district boundary over large stretches, was opened in 1966. Today, apart from a field along Wässerwiesenstrasse, the quarter is continuously built on.

Culture and leisure

Every year at the end of August, the Wülflinger Dorfet takes place north of Wülflingerstrasse in the area of the quarter.

Transport links

In the north, the district is accessed along Wülflingerstrasse with trolleybus line 2 (Wülflingen – HB – Seen) from Stadtbus Winterthur . The southern part is accessed by bus line 7 (main station Wülflingen), which comes from the castle valley. On weekends, the N67 (Winterthur – Neftenbach – Pfungen – Dättlikon) or N59 (Winterthur – Storchenbrücke – Schlosstal – Wülflingen station) night bus lines run along the aforementioned lines out of town, but they only stop to get off.
