Incidents

The Fokker 50 that crashed on September 6, 2014 ( license number 5Y-BYE)

The company has recorded several incidents in its history, one of which was fatal:

• On November 15, 2012, a Fokker 50 ( registration number 5Y-CAN) with 57 people on board had an accident while landing. The charter flight flew refugees from Khartoum to Aweil on behalf of the International Organization for Migration , with some injured in the incident. The plane had to be written off.

• On July 2, 2014, a Fokker 50 (registration number 5Y-CET) with four people on board collided with a building immediately after taking off from Nairobi . According to the flight recorder , the speed of an engine was halved and the aircraft accident investigation showed that the Fokker was overloaded by 500 kg. Nobody survived the accident.

• On September 6, 2014, a Fokker 50 (registration number 5Y-BYE) with 24 people on board had an accident while landing at Gaalkacyo Airport . The flight was operated by Jubba Airways from Somalia . The Fokker came off the runway and slid over an embankment into the airport fence. The right landing gear collapsed and the wing was partially damaged.

• Since a bird strike on January 4, 2015, the affected Fokker 50 (registration number 5Y-SIN) is no longer used.
