African Express Airways was founded in 1986 and is privately owned. It is thus the largest and oldest privately owned airline based at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport .

Incidents

• On May 4, 2020, an Embraer EMB 120 was shot down by the Ethiopian military on the way from Baidoa to Bardale after the aircraft took off and the soldiers suspected an attack on a nearby military camp.
