description

The villa stretches between Melville Road and Avenue Road to the north of Eskbank, which is now part of Dalkeith. Linsandel House was built in 1884 to a design by Know and Hutton . The villa is listed under the name Netherby on maps from the 1890s .

Linsandel House is designed in Italianate style with Greek details. The two-story building has an L-shaped floor plan. The stone material processed into a layered masonry comes from Northumberland, England . Window posts, lintels and balusters , on the other hand, are partly made of a reddish stone from Dumfries and Galloway . The entrance area of the asymmetrical villa is located on a three-story tower on the southwest side. The two-winged portal with a fighter window is designed with a grooved cornice with acroteria and a small triangular gable . On the left is a balustrade with red balusters and a cast-iron lamp. The edges of the top floor of the tower are designed with paired blind pillars . An ornamented frieze runs around it.

The asymmetrically arranged windows are partly paired to twin windows and designed with central mullions. A flat, rounded bay window emerges on the south side . The filigree ornamented, segment-arch- shaped woodwork on the overhanging roof gables is striking . The roofs are covered with gray-green slate. The roofs are finished with red bricks.
