history

Seal of Heinrich v. Lenses 1362. Inscription: HAINRICI DCI LINSIN
Map of the county of Königsegg-Rothenfels (approx. 1725): The map of the county shows Linsen on the lower right (north is on the right).

Linsen (sometimes also "Linsun") becomes tangible through the castle of the same name . In 1355 a Johann von Rothenstein zu Linsen was mentioned in a document when he was selling goods in Wollmuths and Hupprechts to two citizens of Kempten. His wife and heir Clara married the owner of Langenegg Castle, which is in sight, in their second marriage . After his death in 1377, the widow Clara sold the castle and the building yard zu Linsen and the Tafern zu Niedersonthofen to Walther von Laubenberg, who was related by marriage. Then the documentary references to the castle are lost.

In 1362 there was a Heinrich (von Rothenstein) for Linsen, from whom a seal with two maces has been preserved.

The Linsen area belonged directly to the Holy Roman Emperor since 1243 . In that year, Emperor Friedrich II , the grandson of Friedrich Barbarossa, bought Rothenfels Castle and the Albgau County area (as well as an area near Eglofs) for his own for the very large sum of 3200 marks (750 kg) silver.

The county of Königsegg-Rothenfels , which was directly part of the empire , became a sovereign rule in the Holy Roman Empire that was quite independent like the duchies and imperial cities.

As an independent micro-territory, this county survived until 1804, when the last descendant of the counts exchanged ownership to Austria. Linsen became Austrian for so short. Already in 1805, after the Battle of Austerlitz , Linsen came to the Kingdom of Bavaria .

Thanks to the good water supply, there was a separate dairy house in Linsen, with a material ropeway to transport milk from Stoffels.
