The castle lenses is an Outbound hilltop castle on 780  m above sea level. NN in the Allgäu . It is located on a small hill in the village of the same name in the municipality of Waltenhofen in the Oberallgäu district in Bavaria .

history

Linsen Castle belonged to the county of Königsegg-Rothenfels on the border with the area of ​​the Prince Abbey of Kempten .

The first mention in 1319 is a Konrad von Rothenstein , called the Obere (from a branch of Grönenbach).

There is a seal of the knight Heinrich von Linsen (two maces) from 1362.

In 1381 Walther von Laubenberg bought the castle and the building yard for Linsen and the Tafern zu Niedersonthofen from Clara von Langenegg, the widow of Benzen . The nearby church is dated around this time .

In 1439 Rudolf and Heinrich von Montfort donated a benefit to Linsen.

The Burgstall is located on a small, steep, partly abandoned castle hill with a view over the Niedersonthofener See in the east and the Illertal to the south. The small Linsener Bach falls directly on the west side about 14 meters in depth.

Today there is a memorial plaque and small remains of foundation walls on the hill .

The associated church (now a chapel ) is located near the castle . As evidenced by a memorial plaque, Wipszell , today cells, with its own parish church on the north side of the Niedersonthofen lake also belonged to the castle .
