Linus Roth

Linus Roth (* 1977 in Ravensburg ) is a German violinist and university professor.

Career

Roth grew up in Ertingen near Riedlingen in the Upper Swabian district of Biberach. At the age of twelve he received violin lessons in the preliminary class of Nicolas Chumachenco at the Freiburg University of Music . From 1993 to 1998 he studied with Zakhar Bron at the Lübeck University of Music . He then continued his studies at the Zurich University of Music and with Ana Chumachenco at the Munich University of Music and Theater , which he completed with a soloist diploma.

With his debut CD on the EMI Classics label with violin sonatas by Mendelssohn, Brahms, Debussy and Ysaye, Roth became known to a wider public in 2005. For this CD he received the Echo-Klassik Prize for Best Young Artist in 2006.

In addition to his concert activities with leading European orchestras, Roth often plays chamber music and solo evenings, often with the pianist José Gallardo or the pianist Vanessa Benelli Mosell . A particular concern of Roth is the dissemination of the music of the Polish-Soviet composer Mieczyslaw Weinberg , whose violin concerto and his complete works for violin and piano he recorded on CD. He is a co-founder of the "International Weinberg Society".

Roth has been Professor of Violin at the Leopold Mozart Center at the University of Augsburg since October 2012 .

Roth has been playing the Stradivarius violin Dancla from 1703 since 1997 , on loan from the L-Bank Music Foundation .
