Vanessa Benelli Mosell (born November 15, 1987 in Prato , Italy ) is an Italian pianist .

biography

Vanessa Benelli Mosell began taking piano lessons at the age of four. At the age of seven she was admitted to the International Piano Academy in Imola , where she studied with Franco Scala . At the age of nine she appeared for the first time with an orchestra as a soloist and made her debut in New York at eleven with the pianist Pascal Rogé.

In 2007 she was invited by the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory to study with Mikhail Voskressensky before continuing her studies with Dmitri Alexeev at the Royal College of Music in London , where she graduated in 2012. In addition to her piano studies, she studied violin , singing , score reading , composition and conducting .

Career

The highlights of her career include her debut at La Scala in Milan and at the Teatro Regio di Torino , at the MiTo Festival; Solo appearances at the Muziekgebouw , Amsterdam and the Seoul Arts Center; a portrait concert at the National Concert Hall, Dublin , Ireland, with concerts by Rachmaninov and George Benjamin ; Chamber music concerts with the Russian violinist Vadim Repin ; a tour in China with solo appearances, u. a. at the National Center for the Performing Arts , Beijing , the Harbin Grand Theater and the Chongqing Guotai Arts Center; Appearances in the Salle Gaveau , Paris, where she played Chopin's 1st piano concerto with the Orchester Pasdeloup , and her recital in the Salle Cortot in Paris.

In 2018 she made her debut with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and performed with the London Philharmonic Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall , Southbank Center. At the Al-Bustan Festival in Beirut , she played Ravel's piano concerto again and opened the Festival Presences 2019 in the auditorium of Radio France in Paris.

Her other appearances with orchestras include concerts with the Orchestra of the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, the Orchestra of the Teatro Regio di Torino, the Orchester National de France , the Orchester Philharmonique de Strasbourg , the Orquesta Simon Bolivar de Venezuela, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra , the RTE Orchestra Dublin, the Munich Symphony Orchestra, the Zurich Chamber Orchestra , the London Philharmonic Orchestra , the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra and the Moscow Soloists, with whom she appeared as a soloist replacing Martha Argerich .

Benelli Mosell has played concerts and recitals in almost all well-known concert halls in the world, including the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg and the Berlin Philharmonic in Germany .

Benelli Mosell studied conducting in Strasbourg and won prizes at festivals on Elba and Pietrasanta . She conducted the Vienna Chamber Orchestra for the Austrian premiere of Éric Tanguys Incanto (2001). She also conducted the Divertimento Ensemble in Milan .

Benelli Mosell's interpretations of Karlheinz Stockhausen's piano pieces attracted international attention . Because of her recording of his piano pieces I – IV for Italian television, the composer invited her to study with him. He was of the opinion that she had the ability to “bring my music closer to people.” As a mentor, he shaped her understanding of (new) music. Benelli Mosell then worked with contemporary composers, including a. George Benjamin , Hugues Dufourt, Stefano Gervasoni, Martin Matalon and Marco Stroppa .

As a chamber musician, she worked with Renaud and Gautier Capuçon, Julian Rachlin, Vadim Repin , Massimo Quarta, Daishin Kashimoto, Radovan Vlatkovich and his partner, the French cellist Henri Demarquette, with whom she released the album Echoes for DECCA , a comparison of works for cello and piano by Philip Glass and Sergei Rachmaninov.

Benelli Mosells made her debut as a studio musician with her album Introducing Vanessa Benelli Mosell, Virtuoso Piano Music with music by Prokofiev , Haydn , Scriabin and Liszt and received international praise for her “extraordinary artistic talent” and her “dazzling technical mastery of demanding music” (Gramophone Magazines).

Her debut CD was followed by her second Liszt Recital in September 2012 . In the spring of 2015, Benelli Mosell released - as a debut album for DECCA - their recording of a compilation of works by Karol Beffa, Stockhausen and Stravinsky, and in 2016 they made another recording of their Stockhausen series with Lights .

She received international recognition for her first concert recording of Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 2 with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

So far she has released five recordings with DECCA Classics, most recently an album with Debussy's Preludes (1st issue) and the Bergamasque suite .

Benelli Mosell is an official Steinway Artist.
