life and work

Lionel Pissarro grew up in Paris and attended the Lycée Condorcet there .

From 2001 to 2011, Pissarro was a partner with Philippe Ségalot and Frank Giraud in the art dealer Giraud, Pissarro, Ségalot ( GPS ), which specialized in art from the 19th and 20th centuries and had offices in New York and Paris. GPS advised the French billionaire François Pinault and the royal family of the Emirate of Qatar on their art purchases.

In 2008, the partners reportedly bought paintings and statues (mostly from the 1960s) from the estate of American gallery owner Ileana Sonnabend valued at US $ 400 million on behalf of private customers . In 2011, the emirate of Qatar was represented by GPS when the painting The Card Players by Paul Cézanne was purchased . Qatar paid over $ 250 million for this work, which at the time was the highest selling price for an artwork ever. In 2011, Pissarro acquired Paul Gauguin's painting Le Vallon from 1892 for £ 6.4 million from the estate of the Swiss art dealer Ernst Beyeler .

Frank Giraud ended the cooperation in 2011 and left the company. Lionel Pissarro and Philippe Ségalot continued their collaboration until 2012, but then separated.

In September 2012, Pissarro founded the art dealer Connery, Pissarro, Seydoux together with his wife Sandrine, Stephane Cosman Connery (previously director for private sales at auction house Sotheby’s ) and Thomas Seydoux (previously responsible for impressionist and modern art at auction house Christie’s ) . According to the company, the partnership has since "successfully completed some of the highest priced private deals in the international market".

Lionel Pissarro was appointed chairman of the Chagall Windows Sponsorship Committee of the Zionist women's organization Hadassah in 2012 .
