List of Austrian ice hockey clubs between 1920 and 1938
In Austria there were two ice hockey associations from 1920 to 1938 . There was talk of the ice hockey of the workers and the commoners . Under Hockey teams of workers sport in Austria can be found in all active workers sports clubs. The commoners had registered their ice hockey clubs in the Austrian ice hockey association . This list refers to its association members.
introduction
The ice hockey clubs are listed with the name on which they were accepted into the association, for example Wiener Eislauf Verein or Pötzleinsdorfer Sport Klub . A slightly changed or shortened name is often used in publications and is not always consistent. In the case of annual tables, the abbreviation for single letters is provided with periods: WEV or PSK However, the abbreviations are predominantly written without periods, i.e. WEV or PSK. Since the newspapers in Austria also used different names, the predominant general name has been included in the list. The names of the ice hockey association have also changed over the years, sometimes even in a list on the same page.
No distinction is made here between the type of membership as a full or extraordinary member or protection association. Clubs that were not members of the association but that the association members played against have also been accepted. The sources for the beginning of the 1920s and before are incomplete. Some founding dates cannot be determined in this way. The annexation of Austria in 1938 severely restricted reporting on ice hockey. Only a few large clubs are reported. The sports magazine " SportTagblatt " was finally discontinued in 1938. In many cases it is also not known whether the clubs were able to continue playing or whether they ceased operations.
