List of architectural monuments in Freystadt
The monuments of the Upper Palatinate city of Freystadt are compiled on this page . This table is a partial list of the list of architectural monuments in Bavaria . The basis is the Bavarian Monument List , which was first drawn up on the basis of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act of October 1, 1973 and has since been managed by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation . The following information does not replace the legally binding information from the monument protection authority.
Ensemble Altstadt Freystadt
The city, located in the flat valley basin of the Schwarzach on the edge of the Upper Palatinate Jura, was a planned foundation in the last quarter of the 13th century. The town charter, confirmed in 1393, was reassigned in 1662.
The city's floor plan, which is particularly clear, shows a rectangular system with rounded corners, which is traversed in its entire length by a street-like, wide marketplace, which is closed by two gates and accompanied by two parallel alleys. These streets, the Schwallgasse on the brook side in the southwest and the Kirchengasse in the northeast, are bounded on the inner side of the city by the back buildings of the market square property. The town hall stands free on the market square; In order to give space to its characteristic middle position, the market place walls are slightly concave at its height.
The city wall is only preserved in a few places, but the unity of the city plan is particularly emphasized by the two preserved city gates. The position on the edge of the parish church on the outside of Kirchengasse is characteristic; Due to its strict eastward orientation, it is sloping towards the consistently northwest-southeastern building plots. In the so-called ladder rung system, the parallel alleys are connected at right angles to the market square.
Most of the building fabric comes from the Baroque period, the 17th and 18th centuries. The street name Schwallgasse and the field name Schwallflecken for the fields in the western area of the city testify that the Mühlbach, which passed close to the city wall there, could be dammed by a flood system (lock weir) and that additional protection in the event of an attack could be achieved through the resulting flooding.

Remarks
- ↑ This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The property of a monument - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the Monument Atlas and the entry in the Bavarian Monument List. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
