List of double and multiple stars
This list of double and multiple stars is a tabular compilation of double or multiple star systems that have already been discovered .
V - visual double star | The angular distance is large enough to allow the components to be separated by optical means. |
A - Astrometric double star | appears in the sky as a point; the binary star nature can be derived from its orbit in the sky. |
S - Spectroscopic binary star | appears in the sky as a point, the binary star nature can be determined by analyzing the spectrum. |
E - photometric double star | shows a decrease in brightness as the fainter component passes the line of sight. |
The distance is given in parsecs and rounded to two places. If the error is within these two digits, a tilde (~) is added. Two tildes (~~) mean a relative error of more than 5%.
