List of double and multiple stars

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This list of double and multiple stars is a tabular compilation of double or multiple star systems that have already been discovered .

The typing of the multiple stars listed is based on the criterion of the possibility of observation:
V - visual double star The angular distance is large enough to allow the components to be separated by optical means.
A - Astrometric double star appears in the sky as a point; the binary star nature can be derived from its orbit in the sky.
S - Spectroscopic binary star appears in the sky as a point, the binary star nature can be determined by analyzing the spectrum.
E - photometric double star shows a decrease in brightness as the fainter component passes the line of sight.

The distance is given in parsecs and rounded to two places. If the error is within these two digits, a tilde (~) is added. Two tildes (~~) mean a relative error of more than 5%.
