The honorary citizenship is the highest award of the market Garmisch-Partenkirchen . It honors citizens who have rendered outstanding services in the areas of culture, art, politics, economy, science, sport or clergy for the place. The award is made in accordance with the statutes on honors for the Garmisch-Partenkirchen market based on a unanimous recommendation of the council of elders. A certificate is presented with the honorary citizenship. In addition, the honored person signs himself in the golden book of the market. Honorary citizenship does not result in any financial benefits. Posthumous granting of honorary citizenship is not possible. Honorary citizenship expires with death.
