This list of the governors of Meghalaya contains the governors of the northeast Indian state of Meghalaya appointed by Indian presidents with their terms of office. On January 21, 1972 Meghalaya was declared an independent federal state (after the Bangladesh war ), before it was part of the large state of Assam (as well as the neighboring Tripura and Manipur ) with partial autonomy . Until 1989 the governor of Assam was also responsible for Meghalaya (until 1981 also for Tripura and Manipur).
