Harideo Joshi
Harideo (Haridev) Joshi ( Hindi : हरिदेव जोशी , Haridev Jośī ; born December 17, 1921 in Banswara , Rajasthan ; † March 28, 1995 in Mumbai , Maharashtra ) was an Indian politician of the Indian National Congress , three-time Chief Minister of Rajasthan and Governor of the States of Assam , Meghalaya and West Bengal .
Life
Joshi began his political career in 1957 when he was first elected member of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly as a candidate for the Ghatol constituency, before being re-elected seven times to the state parliament as a candidate for the Banswara constituency until his death in 1995 and 1985 achieved a record result of 82.65 percent of the vote.
After the resignation of long-time Chief Minister Mohan Lal Sukhadia in 1971, in whose government Joshi was minister for mining and industry, among other things, and the two-year transitional period of Barkatullah Khan , he rose to become leader of the Indian National Congress in Rajasthan and was also appointed on October 23 1973 Chief Minister of Rajasthan for the first time . He held this office until April 29, 1977, when he was defeated in the parliamentary elections to the candidate of the Janata Party , Bhairon Singh Shekhawat . During this term of office in 1975 the national emergency fell due to the political unrest in Sikkim .
On March 10, 1985 he became Chief Minister for the second time and kept this until his resignation in January 1988 to March 19, 1988. Shiv Charan Mathur was his successor .
From May 10 to July 21, 1989, he was appointed governor of Assam and Meghalaya . Then he was from July 21 to August 14, 1989 also governor of the state of West Bengal . Finally, from December 4, 1989 to March 4, 1990, he was again Chief Minister of Rajasthan for a short term.
As chief minister, he gained a reputation as a pragmatist who claimed as a secret of his success, the 2-W design: " W as needs to be done" and " W he can do."
