The Spanish governor of Panama ruled over an area that first went down in history as Darién and was later also called Castilla de Oro . It was not until 1529 that this colony received the name Panamá , which is still valid today . From August 20, 1739, these were directly subordinate to the Viceroy of New Granada . In total there were 113 men who held the title of governor of Panama.
