The list of International Masters of 1951 lists all chess players who received the title of International Masters from the World Chess Federation FIDE in 1951 . It was the second year of the award for excellent past achievements in chess. With Juri Awerbach and Aleksandar Matanović , two of the 21 players honored at the time are still alive as of January 2016. Four of the 21 players later achieved the title of grandmaster , another two were later awarded the title of honorary grandmaster .

Legend

The table contains the following information:

  • Name : gives the name of the player.
  • Country : The country for which the player was eligible to play in 1951.
  • Life data : states the year of birth and, if applicable, the year of death of the player.
  • GM : Indicates the year of award for players who were later promoted to grandmasters.
  • HGM : Indicates the year of the award for players who were later made Honorary Grand Masters.
  • Other associations : For players who were sooner or later eligible to play for at least one other association, this indicates these associations with the periods of eligibility to play (if known). Changes to a successor state are only taken into account if the player was still active in chess at the time.
