Josef Lokvenc

Josef Lokvenc (born May 1, 1899 in Vienna , † April 2, 1974 in St. Pölten ) was an Austrian chess player .

Josef Lokvenc was a senior official in Vienna . He learned to play chess early in his youth. When Albert Becker met the boy in the summer of 1912, his skill level had already reached a considerable level. In 1920 Lokvenc was one of the founders of the German Chess Club Vienna . In 1925 he won the championship title at a tournament in Braunau . In 1939 in Bad Elster , he finished second behind Erich Eliskases . Shortly afterwards he was also second behind Eliskases at the German Individual Championship in Bad Oeynhausen in 1939 . In 1943 he was German champion at the Congress of the Greater German Chess Federation in Vienna. The Austrian state championship won Lokvenc 1951 (together with Walter Leinweber ) and 1953rd

Josef Lokvenc played in many international tournaments and represented Austria at ten Chess Olympiads between 1927 and 1952, as well as the unofficial Chess Olympiad in Munich in 1936 .

In 1951 the World Chess Federation FIDE awarded him the title of International Master .

He achieved his best historical rating of 2616 in January 1941.
