Imre king

Imre König (born September 2, 1901 in Gyula , Hungary , † September 9, 1992 in Santa Monica , California ) was a strong multinational chess player in the 1920s and 1930s . He played international tournaments as a Yugoslav, English and American.

King was born in Hungary. After the First World War he emigrated to Yugoslavia and took Yugoslav citizenship there. In 1922 he won the championship of Yugoslavia. He also represented this country at the Chess Olympics in Prague in 1931 and in Warsaw in 1935 , as well as at the unofficial Chess Olympics in Munich in 1936 .

In 1938 he emigrated to England, in 1949 he became a British citizen. In 1948/49 he finished second behind Nicolas Rossolimo in Hastings . In 1951 FIDE awarded him the title of International Master .

In 1953 he moved to the USA.

König published several articles in various chess magazines and wrote several books, such as Chess from Morphy to Botwinnik . A Century of Chess Evolution (New York 1977, ISBN 0-486-23503-3 ).
