Alfred Beni

Alfred Beni (born June 3, 1923 in Vienna ; † June 4, 1995 ) was an Austrian chess player .

Alfred Beni represented Austria at seven Chess Olympiads ( 1950 , 1952 , 1954 , 1958 , 1960 , 1962 and 1964 ). He was most successful in 1950 in Dubrovnik, when he achieved a result of 9.5 out of 15. For this achievement, FIDE awarded him the title of International Master in 1951 . He was also able to assert himself against world-class players, for example he managed a draw against Najdorf in Vienna in 1950 and against Bronstein at the 1954 Olympics in Amsterdam.

In 1947 and 1952 he was runner-up at the Austrian state championship and won the city championship of Vienna five times. In 1950 he finished second in the international tournament in Vienna (behind Paoli ).
