This list includes opal deposits in Australia with mining fields in which opals are mined commercially and systematically . Opal fields are located in three states, Queensland , New South Wales and South Australia . In 2007/2008, 95 to 97 percent of the world trade demand for opals was met from Australia .

Lightning Ridge

Most of Australia's black opals are found in and around Lightning Ridge .
