St. Anna im Höselwang is a Roman Catholic chapel in Sankt Anna , a district of the Upper Swabian district town of Mindelheim . It is located east of the Waldrestaurant St. Anna.

history

The Augsburg bishop Heinrich von Lichtenau granted permission to build the first chapel on September 27, 1514. The reason for building the chapel about four kilometers east of the city in the middle of the forest is not known. Legend has it that Georg I von Frundsberg had the chapel built ex voto in 1526 . The fear of the plague, which swept away many of his soldiers in Italy at the time, supposedly prompted him to do so. Georg II von Frundsberg had the nave added in 1586 . The sacristy and the bell tower were added in 1599. According to a message from 1638, the chapel, which has become the target of a lively pilgrimage, had a high altar , two side altars and a cross altar . The Swedes destroyed the chapel in 1804. Then the cross altar was removed. In 1816 the chapel was demolished because it was in disrepair. The current chapel was built in 1926.
