List of mayors of Winterthur
The list of mayors of Winterthur provides an overview of the famous city leaders of Winterthur from the first mayor in 1240 to 1798. Not all mayors in the city are known, especially in the initial phase. Werner Ganz counted a total of 89 mayors in his city's history in 1960. The first mention of a Schultheiss of Winterthur can be found in the documents in 1230, with the town charter of Winterthur in 1264, the people of Winterthur could choose their Schultheiss themselves.
After the end of the ancien regime in 1798, the new mayor was mayor called.

General information about this list
This list is based on the mayors of Winterthur enumerated by Alfred Ziegler in the 253rd New Year's Gazette of the Winterthur City Library from 1919 . Not all data in this list are equally precise, sometimes there are contradicting data on the terms of office and spellings between the various sources, for example Johann Conrad Troll also mentions other names than Schultheisse that are not mentioned by Ziegler and vice versa. In case of doubt, this list is based on the data from Ziegler - Schultheisse, which are only mentioned by Troll, can be found in a separate list. The sources on the incumbent mayors, especially in the early centuries, are by no means complete, so that this list cannot claim to be complete. Most of the time, the Winterthurer Schultheiss did not hold this office in one go, but took it on alternately and were old school the other year.
