history
As early as 1942, Frederic William Eggleston was the Australian government's envoy to Chiang Kai-shek in Chongqing . In 1966, as an anti-communist demonstration against the backdrop of the Vietnam War , the Australian government opened a diplomatic mission in Taipei . After the Paris peace talks and Henry Kissinger's visit to Mao Zedong , Gough Whitlam also traveled to Beijing and agreed to move the embassy to Beijing.
