Gamlitz Castle, also called Obergamlitz, was built between 1111 and 1131 and came into the possession of the St. Paul Abbey in Lavanttal through a gift from the Count of Sponheim . It is the only one of the noble seats around the town that existed in the 16th century. In the 15th century the castle was owned by a family Seidl or Sadl von Gamlitz , whose members were buried in the parish church between 1442 and 1446. Thereafter changing owners, including knight of the heart in the 16th century , around 1630 Georg Klemmenrath , iron merchant, city judge and mayor of Graz. In the 19th century the castle served as a cavalry barracks. Around 1900 the castle came into the possession of the Melcher family and is now run as a hotel.

The buildings of the three-storey single-wing building date from the 17th and 18th centuries, first renovation in 1772. Exterior design only after 1800. The vaulted rooms on the first floor date from the 17th century. There is a gallery in the basement.

The Gothic church building was changed in the Baroque and again in the 19th century. The two-bay nave is followed by the three-bay choir with a 3/8 end, two-lane tracery windows and stepped buttresses. A chapel with a semicircle is attached to the south; the north chapel was built in 1729 by Georg Schmerlaib. The brick west gallery is closed by a neo-baroque wooden parapet. In the west is the squat tower with a tent roof and the crossed pointed arch portal with the relief of a Pietà by Jakob Gschiel (1873) in the tympanum . The neo-Gothic high altar dates from the fourth quarter of the 19th century, the Johannes Nepomuk altar in the north chapel and the Marian altar in the south chapel from around 1730. The eight-sided, partially walled-in octagonal baptismal font with coat of arms and vine tendrils was created at the end of the 16th century . On the outer wall there are tombstones from the first quarter of the 17th century and Roman stones from the 1st and 2nd centuries.
