Under Archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau , an urban plague house was built here. Archbishop Sigismund Graf Schrattenbach had the hospital renovated from 1754–1758 and converted into a breeding and workhouse for ruffians, fornicators and insubordinate servants and children . When Salzburg came to Austria in 1816, the hospital was used as a barracks. In 1901, the Stiegl brewery acquired the building complex, in whose courtyard the Rochus Chapel , dedicated to the saint of the plague, still stands.

The late Gothic parish church with a simple nave, steep pitched roof and west tower was built around 1500, with older masonry probably being used. The marble altar dates from 1774. From 1952 to 1956, a monumental hall building with large concrete figures of saints above the main portal was built to the north of the church.
