The original Faberhaus , a U-shaped historical building complex from the Wilhelminian era , was built in the second half of the 19th century after the Lodron fortifications north of Mirabellplatz were torn down . The Faberhaus is named after the Viennese brewery director and client Moritz Faber and includes the addresses Rainerstraße 2, Hubert-Sattler-Gasse 1 and 3 and Franz-Josef-Straße 2 and 4. The building was designed by Franz Schommleitner and built by Valentin Ceconi . In the meantime, buildings that are similar and also built by Ceconi are called Faber houses, especially those that form the block around Rainerstraße, Hubert-Sattler-Gasse, Faberstraße, Franz-Josef-Straße. Parts of the complex were damaged in World War II. Today there is a bank in the house at Rainerstraße 2, while the other buildings also house the Salzburg magistrate's facilities.

Rathausplatz 1 KG

The area of today's town hall was in the hands of the Keuzl family from Salzburg in 1407. In that year the city acquired the so-called Keuzl Tower from the 12th century, which was part of the first city wall, but had already lost its defensive function. The construction of the hexagonal structure with the belfry underneath comes, like the bells themselves, from the 14th century. The town hall was expanded from 1510 to 1523. Although it was the administrative center, large parts of the three-story building were rented out. The present-day appearance can be traced back to the renovation carried out under Mayor Kaspar Haan from 1616 onwards. The statue of the Justizia was also created this year by Johann Waldburger. In the years 1772 to 1775 the town hall received its rococo facade. Until 1947 the town hall remained the seat of the mayor.

Today the building on the ground floor is used by shops, otherwise by municipal departments. Between 2011 and 2012 the building was completely renovated by the architects Max Rieder and Erich Wagner with the design of the glass-roofed inner courtyard with expressionist staircase sculpture as a new through-house between Rudolfskai and Getreidegasse .

In the 12th century, the imperial palace of Friedrich Barbarossa was located on Waagplatz, and at the same time the nucleus of bourgeois Salzburg was here in front of the gates of the episcopal city. House No. 1 had the functions of a court house, a weighing house and, since the beginning of the 16th century, a drinking room. The location was leased by the city's magistrate, hence the name "city drink room". After the fire of 1635, it was rebuilt in its present form. From 1811 used as a hotel ("Archduke Karl"). 1899 Sale to the Kiesel printing company. The monumental painting by Karl Reisenbichler from 1928 with the anchor, symbol of the anchor insurance that was housed here at the time, is striking .
