The wayside shrine, which was re-erected here in the 1980s based on the original model, is pillar IV of a series of 15 wayside shrines originally erected in 1705, depicting the 15 secrets of the rosary and along a pilgrimage route from Salzburg's Elisabeth-Vorstadt to the Plainberg led. The oil painting restored by Ady Fuchs on this fourth so-called "mystery pillar" shows the sacrifice of Jesus in the temple and refers to the fourth mystery of the joyous rosary ("whom you, o virgin, offered up in the temple").

The column from 1594, on the other hand, represents an imperial antiquity and marks the place at Bayerischer Platzl where the sovereign of Bavaria had the right to send an envoy with 72 riders to the gates of Salzburg. It was integrated between the mysterious pillars V and VI of the Maria Plain Rosary Path. The oil painting shows the miraculous image of Maria Plain and was redesigned by Ady Fuchs in the second half of the 20th century.
