Sebastian Stumpfegger

Sebastian Stumpfegger (* around 1670 in Salzburg ; † November 14, 1749 there ) was a Salzburg stonemason and master mason .

Sebastian Stumpfegger comes from an old Salzburg family of master masons and stonemasons who had worked there as master masons since the 16th century. Since 1675 he was also a citizen of the city here. His father was the Salzburg citizen and Domkapitel master bricklayer Lorenz Stumpfegger (1641–1709).

After his apprenticeship in the prince-archbishop's court master builder, Sebastian Stumpfegger spent six years training in Vienna, Italy, Tyrol, Bavaria, Palatinate, Bohemia and Moravia, Silesia and Prussia, in Sweden, Denmark and Holland as well as in imperial cities in the Rhineland and Hamburg.

His son Johann Adam Stumpfegger (December 24, 1703 to August 28, 1753) and his grandson Lorenz Valentin Stumpfegger (March 13, 1737 to July 20, 1792) continued the family's artistic work.

Sebastian Stumpfegger four wives died one after the other. He had a total of 21 children and is buried in the Petersfriedhof Salzburg in Salzburg. In addition to his grave cross, the grave crosses of his parents and those of his four wives at St. Peter's Cemetery have been preserved.
