The Flachau parish church is elevated on the eastern slope of the valley in the municipality of Flachau in the St. Johann im Pongau district in the province of Salzburg . The the patronage of the Immaculate Conception of Mary assumed Roman Catholic parish church belongs to the deanery Altenmarkt in the Archdiocese of Salzburg . The church is a listed building ( list entry ).

history

The church was built between 1719 and 1721 with the court architect Sebastian Stumpfegger and consecrated as a vicariate church in 1722. In 1858 it was elevated to parish church. Renovations took place in 1879, 1913 and 1960/1961.

architecture

The single-nave baroque church is surrounded by a cemetery. The narrow and high baroque building has a base zone and a circumferential profiled cornice. The nave and the retracted choir show themselves with a painted pilaster structure, with marble-framed windows and blind ox eyes. The gable tower facade in the west shows a broad, slightly protruding risalit. The baroque marble portal has a rustic frame and shows the coat of arms of Prince Archbishop Franz Anton von Harrach and the inscription with chronogram 1720 and above it an oval window with a wedge and the inscription 1721. The two-storey gable tower on the risalit has arched sound windows and an onion helmet. The two-storey rectangular baroque sacristy is attached to the choir head in the same width.

The three-bay nave with an adjoining raised single-bay choir has a stepped cornice and barrel vault with ornamental painting. The triumphal arch has moved in. The west gallery is accessed via two spiral staircases on both sides in the masonry of the west front.

Furnishing

The baroque high altar made of marble was built in 1722. The altarpiece Immaculata was painted by Johann Michael Rottmayr de Rosenbrunn (1722).

The organ was built by Matthäus Mauracher the Elder in 1868. Bells were cast by Andreas Zachenhueber in 1730 and Franz Xaver Gugg in 1819.
