List of German ministers for intra-German relations

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ministers for intra-German relations were those ministers of the Federal Republic who dealt with all-German issues during the existence of two German states. Until the social-liberal coalition took office in October 1969, the title was "Minister for All-German Issues".

Since the Federal Republic did not want to designate the GDR as a foreign country, as this would have confirmed the existence of the GDR ( Hallstein Doctrine ), the Minister for Internal German Relations virtually took over the tasks of the Foreign Minister of the Federal Republic with regard to the GDR. After German reunification on October 3, 1990, it was the job of the Federal Ministry for Internal German Relations to complete the accession process. During the 42 years that the ministry was in existence, the ministry was headed by nine ministers. The first female minister, Dorothee Wilms (1987 to 1991), was also the last minister.
