Countries with bauxite production

The list of the largest bauxite producers in 2017 shows Australia (83 million tons), the People's Republic of China (68 million tons), Guinea (45 million tons), Brazil (36 million tons) and India (27 million tons) as the world's most important mining nations of bauxite , which made up 72.2 percent of the 300 million tons mined worldwide.

Large deposits exist in Australia, Asia (China, India, Kazakhstan, Indonesia), South America (Brazil, Venezuela, Suriname, Guyana), Central America (Jamaica) and West Africa (Guinea, Sierra Leone, Ghana). In Europe there are important mining areas in Russia, Greece, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Hungary. In Germany there are only small and insignificant bauxite deposits for aluminum production .

Production, reserves and stock base

Production and reserves are listed in tons. The United States Geological Survey offers the following definition of this: The reserves are that part of the supply base that could be economically extracted or produced at a given time. The term does not have to mean that extraction systems are installed and working. Reserves only contain exploitable substances.
