List of tallest buildings in Shanghai
The list of tallest buildings in Shanghai lists all buildings in Shanghai with a height of at least 250 meters.
description
With over 23 million inhabitants in the metropolitan region, Shanghai is the largest city in the People's Republic of China and currently has 157 skyscrapers. This means that Shanghai has the fourth highest number of buildings in the world beyond the 150 meter mark. The first skyscrapers were built under British rule in the 1920s, but it wasn't until the Pudong Peninsula was built up in the 1990s that more and more skyscrapers began to appear in Shanghai. In 1994, the 468-meter-high Oriental Pearl Tower was built in the new Pudong district, one of the tallest television and observation towers. The 93-story Jin Mao Tower opened in 1999 as the second tallest skyscraper. The current peak has been marked by the Shanghai Tower with a total height of 632 meters since 2015. The building contains the highest viewing platform in the world (at 561 m).
