List of the Electoral Palatinate Bavarian regiments of the early modern period

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In 1777, the dual electorate of Palatinate-Bavaria was faced with the question of merging the regiments of the Bavarian and Palatinate regions into a single army. The present list of the regiments of the Electoral Palatinate of Bavaria from the early modern period represents the first official master list from 1790 and the list from 1804.

Explanation of the system

Until the introduction of the Stammliste in 1790, the regiments were only named after their regiment chiefs. In addition to the numbering given to new establishments after the dissolution of individual regiments, the year of foundation is added to the regiments below. This is intended to facilitate comparability. This numbering consistently follows the Ticino line-ups. If several regiments were founded in one year, Ticino added a second number (e.g. "1778/13" = thirteenth regiment that was set up in 1778). The former Bavarian regiments received a new addition (with reference to the Bavarian numbering). Former Palatinate regiments keep the numbering in this list. This is followed by the names of the regiment chiefs or the name (possibly name of the commander).

Meaning of the characters used: "*" = foundation, "†" = dissolution, "<" = origin, ">" = whereabouts, "=" = double function as a standing regiment of an imperial estate.
