The Nicaraguan Ministry of Education has been headed by 25 ministers since 1940, including 3 teachers, 11 lawyers, 4 engineers, 4 doctors, a manager, and an economist. Humberto Belli had the longest term from 1991 to 1998, while Ildefonso Palma Martínez held the office for 26 days.

designation

The original name of the Ministry of Education was Ministerio de Instrucción Pública y Educación Física . When Lorenzo Guerrero took office in the 1940s, the name was Mexicanized into Secretaría de Educación . Later the name was changed to Ministerio de Educación Pública and under the government of Arnoldo Alemán in Ministerio de Educación Pública y Institutos de Cultura y Deportes .

The Ministry of Education is located in the Centro Cívico Camilo Ortega, Módulo J , in Managua .

  • The Ministry does not have its own building and has been housed in different locations since 1940.
  • In 1940 it was on two floors in a building block at Vviejo Mercado San Miguel in Managua.
  • Later it was in the south corner of the second floor of the Antigua Palacio Nacional .
  • The next address was in the old Casa del Águila opposite the Lido Palace Hotel in the neighborhood of Parque Frixione .
  • The next address was in Edificio Cerna on Carretera norte where the PETRONIC head office was.
  • At the time of the 1972 earthquake, the Ministry was in some of the pabillions of the Escuela Normal de Managua (teacher training school) in Barrio La Fuente .
  • From there the ministry was relocated to its current location in the Centro Cívico .
