The Roman Catholic Church was initially banned in Norway after the Reformation.
19th century until today
The Apostolic Vicariate of Sweden was approved in Norway by royal resolution of March 6, 1843. August 7, 1868 it became the " Mission sui iuris Norway". On August 17th, 1869 an Apostolic Prefecture was established . On March 11, 1892, Oslo became part of the Apostolic Vicariate of Norway , until it became its own Apostolic Vicariate on April 10, 1931. On June 29, 1953, the Oslo bishopric was re-established.
