history

The South African and Kazakh governments established diplomatic relations in 1992 after the latter became independent on December 16, 1991 after the collapse of the Soviet Union . The official seat was the South African Embassy in Moscow . 1996–1997 the embassy was in the capital of Kazakhstan, Almaty , with a chargé d'affaires, then Moscow was again the official seat.

In 1992 relations were also established with the Turkmen, Kyrgyz and Tajik governments. The diplomatic representative in these countries was not appointed until 1999 and was the ambassador in Ankara . However, these countries have not accredited an ambassador in Pretoria.

After an unoccupied period, an ambassador for the four countries has been in office again since 2012.
