List of Royal Navy bases
|
This list contains all permanent bases of the British Navy .
Identification and naming
In addition to the place name, most bases have an additional name in the style of a warship, starting with the abbreviation HMS for Her Majety's Ship . This name always has a historical or symbolic connection with the base. In addition, the type of base, with the exception of training facilities of the Royal Navy, is indicated by the following abbreviations:
- HMNB = Her / His Majesty's Naval Base (naval base)
- RNAS = Royal Naval Air Station (air base)
- RMB = Royal Marine Base (base of the Royal Marines)
- CTCRM = Commando Training Center Royal Marines (training facility of the Royal Marines)
In the course of restructuring and cooperation with the other branches of arms at individual bases, however, this scheme has no longer been consistently applied since the late 1980s .
