from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Literary Society Arnsberg eV is an association in Arnsberg , which is committed to the promotion of literary talents in Westphalia , especially in the Sauerland , and the implementation of events.

history

The association ideally ties in with a literary society that announced its founding in 1791 to the Elector Maximilian Franz of Austria . The first president was Clemens August von Weichs . Engelbert Arndts was the company’s syndic .

The current association has existed since 1995. One of the reasons for the establishment was the end of the traditional and renowned Arnsberg short story colloquium . The discussion about literature in Arnsberg threatened to get lost. The association has 80 members (as of June 2013). The chairpersons were Jürgen Richter from 1995–2007, Markus Meik from 2007–2013, and Hans-Martin Esser from 2013–2016. Jutta Ludwig has been the first chairwoman since 2016.

activities

About 10 events take place every year. These include readings or discussions about books. Between 2001 and 2013 the society regularly held a literary salon on various topics. With this concept, the organizers regularly reached around 60 participants. Another form of event is the “counter reading” by poets in restaurants, but also in the historic beer cellar of the Wedinghausen monastery .

The society is particularly committed to promoting young authors. As early as 1996, an event for young authors was organized with the poetic night. The poems presented were published in the volume Behind the Mirrors . Similar projects followed.

The society works closely with the Christine Koch Society , which is particularly dedicated to maintaining the Westphalian dialect. There are also collaborations with the Arnsberg Art Summer and the summer jelly of the DER BOGEN studio community. The Poesiepfad project , which uses the Arnsberg Forest as a backdrop for poems, was transferred to the Arnsberger Heimatbund in 2013.

Various publications have emerged from the company's events.
