Freiherr von Weichs came from the von Weichs noble family . In 1757 he was appointed chamberlain to Elector Clemens August . In 1766 he was sworn to be a deputy of the knighthood of the Landtag of the Duchy of Westphalia . Elector Maximilian Friedrich appointed Weichs to the Westphalian aristocratic council in 1767 and to the real secret council of state in 1781.

Weichs inherited the former bird house in the old town of Arnsberg. Since then, this noble town house and important architectural monument has been called the Weichs'scher Hof . Weichs acquired Arnsberg citizenship in 1771. Weichs had the ancestral seat of the Haus Wenne family redesigned considerably.

In 1786 he was appointed Landdrosten of the Duchy of Westphalia by Elector Maximilian Franz . He was thus the successor to Franz Wilhelm von Spiegel . Thus he was the deputy of the elector in the duchy and at the same time the representative of the estates towards the sovereign. In 1791 he was elected president of the newly formed literary society .

After the Duchy of Westphalia passed to Hesse-Darmstadt, Weichs was appointed President of the Government College in Arnsberg by Landgrave Ludwig X, with the title of a real secret council.
