Literature Foundation Oberschwaben

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Upper Swabian Literature Foundation was founded in 1979 on the initiative of the writer Martin Walser and the Biberach entrepreneur Heinz Saueressig as an institution to promote literary life in the Swabian-Alemannic language region. The aim was to promote the creation of literature in Upper Swabia , in particular to enable the publication of editions of works, to collect literary bequests and to convey literature.

The charitable foundation started with a contribution from Martin Walser. Later, the capital stock grew to such an extent that the income made it possible to contribute to the publication or promotion of works.

Since the foundation, the editions of works by Maria Müller-Gögler , Maria Menz , Werner Dürrson and Josef W. Janker have been published and various individual publications, including Manfred Bosch's “Bohème am Bodensee”, have been funded. The foundation's task of archiving took a back seat because the German Literature Archive Marbach was ready to take over the important holdings of the Oberschwaben Literature Archive. In 2007, the board of the Oberschwaben Literature Archive Foundation decided to concentrate its activities on promoting literature. In addition, the foundation was renamed the "Literature Foundation Oberschwaben" in order to make the focus of the task recognizable to the outside world.

From the beginning, Martin Walser was a member of the board as chairman until 2003, as did retired mayor. D. Claus-Wilhelm Hoffmann (Chairman). In the place of the deceased founding members Heinz Saueressig and Walter Münch are Ulrich Raulff , the director of the German Literature Archive in Marbach, whose predecessor Ulrich Ott , Elmar Kuhn , former managing director of the Oberschwaben Society, Josef Büchelmeier , former Lord Mayor. D., Peter Schneider (MdL), President of the Sparkassenverband Baden-Württemberg, Kurt Widmaier , District Administrator of the Ravensburg District and Chairman of the OEW and Oswald Burger , Head of the Literary Forum Oberschwaben. The managing director of the foundation is Franz Hoben from the Friedrichshafen Cultural Office.
