Josef Büchelmeier

Josef Büchelmeier (born January 4, 1948 in Schwäbisch Hall ) is a German local politician of the SPD .

Education and career

Büchelmeier studied Latin and Catholic theology in Tübingen . He was senior teacher at the Markdorf Education Center and at the Karl-Maybach-Gymnasium in Friedrichshafen. From May 10, 2001 to June 5, 2009 he was Lord Mayor of Friedrichshafen .

  • In 2001 he was elected in the first ballot with 50.02% of the vote.
  • In 2009 he did not run for the mayor election. Andreas Brand was elected as his successor on April 5, 2009 .

As Lord Mayor, he was also chairman of the Zeppelin Foundation and, as its chairman, also a member of the supervisory boards of Zeppelin GmbH , Zeppelin Baumaschinen GmbH, ZF Friedrichshafen AG , ZF Saarbrücken GmbH, ZF Passau GmbH , Technische Werke Friedrichshafen GmbH and Messe Friedrichshafen GmbH.

Social Commitment

City of Lake Constance

In 2009, on the initiative of Büchelmeier, the “International Association of Cities on Lake Constance” (2011: 24 members) was founded in Friedrichshafen. Büchelmeier has been Managing Director of the Lake Constance Association since 2009.

From 2012 to 2016 Büchelmeier was a member of the board of the Henry Dunant Museum Heiden

Rotary Club

From 2012 to 2013 Büchelmeier was President RC Friedrichshafen (2011/2012)

Association Hohentwiel

Büchelmeier has been the first chairman of the international association "Hohentwiel" since 2016

Amici di Imperia

Büchelmeier has been the 1st chairman of the Amici di Imperia town twinning association since 2015
