Lito Fontana (born December 2, 1962 in Josè C. Paz (Buenos Aires / Argentina)) is an Italian-Argentine trombonist .

Life

Fontana began his first music lessons at the age of seven with the classical guitar. When he moved to Italy with his family at the age of 11, he changed instruments and studied at the “G. Rossini ”in Pesaro Trombone, where he also graduated.

He became a member of various wind ensembles, the TV orchestra RAI hired him to record film music and at the same time he works with Billy Cobham and Chet Baker . The Orchestra Internazionale d'Italia and the Camerata Musicale Pescarese appointed him first trombonist.

In 1991 he moved to Austria and became a member of the Haller Stadtpfeifern , during which time he founded the trombone quartet Trombonisti Italiani and mainly worked with the wind group Juvavum Brass from Salzburg together with Hans Gansch , Lorenz Raab and Gábor Tarkövi . With Juvavum Brass he made tours with the American trumpeter Allen Vizzutti and the Australian James Morrison .

In his search for new emotions and challenges, he worked with various formations from different musical directions. He is both solo trombonist of the Brass Band Fröschl Hall and the Brass Band Upper Austria , with whom he took 3rd place at the European Brass Band Championship 2010 . He was shaped by the collaboration with the Austrian composer Werner Pirchner , whose various film scores (including research on girls ), the signature of Radio Austria International and the Wiener Festwochen became fanfares.

In 2008 and again in 2010 he was voted into Brass Band of the Year by Online Brass Magazine 4barsrest as one of the world's best trombonists in this scene.

His solo CD When I walk alone was nominated by 4barsrest as one of the 5 best brass solo CDs of the year worldwide in 2011 . In 2012 he developed his new Schagerl “Fontana” tenor trombone in cooperation with the SCHAGERL company.

Lito has participated with various formations in the festivals Tiroler Festspiele , Klangspuren Schwaz , Sauerländer Herbst , Schagerl Festival and appeared as a soloist at the Spanish Brass Festival in Valencia, MIDEUROPE in Schladming, the music festivals in Budapest and Vilnius. He was guest soloist with the Symphonic Wind Orchestra from Meran, brass bands in Holland and Germany and worked with Branimir Slokar, Stephan Schulz, Vince DeMartino, Frank Pulcini, Ab Koster, Spanish Brass, Steven Mead, Oystein Baadsvik, Pat Sheridan, Leonard Candelaria, Roland Szentpàli , Josè P. Vilaplana, James Watson, Johann de Meij, Gabor Tarkövi, John Sass, Florian Klingler and T. Dokshizer.

He was a jury member at national and international competitions and is a lecturer at the Music School Hall, as well as a former lecturer at the Conservatories of Bolzano and Perugia and gave workshops and masterclasses in Europe.

Lito lives with his wife and two children in Innsbruck.
