Jonathan James "Jon" Casey (born August 29, 1962 in Grand Rapids , Michigan ) is a former American ice hockey goalkeeper who worked for the Minnesota North Stars , Boston Bruins and St. Louis Blues during his playing days from 1980 to 1998 played in the National Hockey League .

Career

Jon Casey began his career as a hockey player at the University of North Dakota , which he attended from 1980 to 1984, while playing for their ice hockey team in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association . There the goalkeeper received several individual awards, after which he signed a contract as a free agent with the Minnesota North Stars on April 1, 1984 . In these he made his debut in the National Hockey League towards the end of the 1983/84 season , when he was twice for the North Stars between the posts. In the following nine years he developed into the goalkeeper of Minnesota, where he was also on the ice for its farm teams Baltimore Skipjacks and Springfield Indians in the American Hockey League and Kalamazoo Wings in the International Hockey League . There he was able to attract attention especially in the 1984/85 season when he received the Harry "Hap" Holmes Memorial Award as the goalkeeper with the lowest goals against goal and the Aldege "Baz" Bastien Memorial Award as the best goalkeeper of the AHL as a player in the Skipjacks . Because of his good performance with the North Stars, he was rewarded with a nomination for the 1993 NHL All-Star Game .

After the Minnesota North Stars were relocated, their successor team Dallas Stars transferred him to the Boston Bruins for the 1993/94 season within the NHL . In these he was able to convince straight away as a regular goalkeeper. He spent the following three years with the St. Louis Blues , but played mostly for their farm teams Peoria Rivermen from the IHL and Worcester IceCats from the AHL. He last appeared in the 1997/98 season for the IHL team Kansas City Blades before ending his career at the age of 36.

International

For the USA Casey took part in the U20 Junior World Championship in 1982 and the A World Championship in 1990 .
